Yrdyk is a small village just 7 kilometers west of Karakol City. It was founded in 1877 as Marinskoye, then renamed Dyishin before settling on Yrdyk.
A local family welcomes you into their home to taste traditional Dungan dishes made from family recipes. Learn about why this group of Muslim Chinese moved here 140 years ago and how they’ve kept their culture alive.

Program
Our journey takes us to the village of Yrdyk, where we’ll taste a traditional Dungan dinner comprising 8 courses. Each dish will be explained, revealing its significance for various occasions.
In addition to this culinary experience, you’ll have the opportunity to participate in a masterclass on preparing authentic Dungan Ashlyan-fu, a signature dish of Karakol.
After dinner, we’ll visit a unique museum, guided by its curator, Luke L. Here, you’ll uncover the captivating story of the Dungan people and their migration from China to the Issyk-Kul region.
Throughout the excursion, you’ll immerse yourself in the distinctive world of Dungan cuisine, learning about their customs, admiring traditional attire, discovering wedding rituals, and marveling at a remarkable mosque shaped like a pagoda, constructed entirely without nails.
